Oil on canvas, 17" x 37". Totems are sacred objects (or animals) that symbolize concepts essential to a culture. Every culture throughout history has had its own totems.

The sacred ibis is an ancient Egyptian totem representing the concepts of communication and community.

Likewise, the computer motherboard is a modern totem, also representing communication and community.

Marilyn Callahan has combined the images of ancient and new totems into a painting that reminds us of their timeless influence.
